We know that if children’s first experience of the dentist is a relaxed and positive one, they are far more likely to look after their teeth for life.
We are supporters of the Dental Check By One scheme so we know that teeth are developing as they should. For more information on the scheme, please visit http://bspd.co.uk/Patients/Dental-Check-by-One
Their first visit
We recommend that you tell your child that the dentist is going to count their teeth and give them a ride on the big chair. DON’T say “it won’t hurt” – this suggests that it might! If you are confident, why not let them watch you go first?
Child toothache?
You meant to visit sooner, but time just went by so quickly and now the reason for your child’s first visit is toothache. All is not lost! We are able to offer inhalation sedation – ‘laughing gas’ so that children are relaxed. We can also offer cream to numb the gum before placing anaesthetics.
