If you are happy to proceed with botox treatment you will be asked to sign a consent form to confirm that you have given permission for the procedure to go ahead and that you know all the possible side effects and complications of the anti-wrinkle.
You will also be asked to give consent for before and after photographs to be taken.
The injections of botox are usually relatively painless or just slightly uncomfortable, no anaesthetic is required.
Generally, after the initial consultation, the anti-wrinkle treatment only takes about 15 minutes, there is no recovery time. If you have a job, you can easily have the procedure done in your lunchtime and go straight back to work.
There is no permanent side effect or complication known with botox therapy for facial wrinkles. However, there are several temporary, mild side effects which can occur including:
In a very small number of individuals, the injection of botox does not work as satisfactorily or for as long as usual.
After treatment with botox, simple instructions are given to minimise the possibility of side effects and maximise the effectiveness of the procedure:
DO NOT apply make-up for 4 hours
DO NOT lie down, bend forward or do strenuous exercise for 4 hours
DO NOT rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours
Try to exercise your treated muscles for about 2 hours after treatment (e.g frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting).
This will help to work Botox into your muscles, although this will not impact your treatment negatively if you forget to do it.
Result from treatment will take from 2-14 days to become visible. The results will last between 3-4 months depending on how your muscles react to the effects of Botox, this is different from person to person. Subsequent treatments can last longer.
