Smile Makeovers

Smile Makeovers

We are able to perform full smile makeovers using a wide range of techniques, and often utilising the varied specialised skills of more than one member of our dental team.

We are utilising the latest systems to try and make smile makeovers as minimally damaging to the teeth as possible. Cases that until very recently would probably have been treated with 10-20 porcelain crowns and veneers, requiring significant tooth preparations and even root canal treatment are now being replaced by courses of treatment that rely on repositioning the teeth with different types of invisible braces and tooth whitening. Tooth preparation can be reduced to reshaping of enamel, little white filling build ups, or ultra thin porcelain veneers requiring almost no tooth preparation. We will always look for the least invasive solution as a preferred option.

Smile makeovers involving possibly multiple crowns, veneers, bridgework and titanium dental implants, can be also planned and carried out using a variety of methods, depending on the complexity of the treatments, and possible constraints imposed by your own time scales and budgets.

There are usually several different ways of achieving a desirable smile. It is very important to us that your requirements are clearly understood before we embark on any treatment. The starting points for any makeover consultations begin with the completion of our detailed smile checklist, often followed by clinical photographs, computer imagery and /or a wax mock up of your new smile to allow us to visualise the prospective end result before we ever touch a tooth.

The most complete makeover packages offered involve the creation of your ideal smile initially in wax on a stone model of your mouth (called a diagnostic wax-up)

Once the wax-up meets everyone’s requirements, the ideal is to transfer this to a set of prototype restorations. Teeth are prepared if necessary and then fitted with the restorations, (crowns, veneers, bridgework) created from white filling material. The prototype smile can then be tried out for a period of weeks, even months until we are all satisfied with the expected result.. This stage allows us to check the shape and position of the teeth, the bite and function, and also the phonetics (speech). We can make as many modifications as are necessary (adding or removing material as required). Only when everyone is happy with the prototypes will these be copied and replicated in porcelain.

The prototype stage incurs additional stages, visits and costs, and is not always necessary, but it allows for very precise control of your end result compared with simply preparing the teeth, after wax-up and progressing straight to the fit of the final porcelain restorations.
